The Food and Drink Festival will run throughout the district between 25 - 29 September.

  • Food and drink festival quiz

Don't miss out on your chance to win £100 of party and entertainment food from Waitrose by entering the quiz using the form on the right. Entry forms will also be available at the Food fest 08 event at Woodgreen on Sunday 28 September.

The main events include:

  • A Sandwich competition

Running across the four main towns, the finals will be held at the Saxongate Centre, Huntingdon on Saturday 27 September, with judging at 2.30pm. The prize giving is taking place at the Food Fest 08 Wood Green event on Sunday 28 September, where the finalists creations will be in the menu!

  • A Young Chef Competition, Sponsored by Anglian Water

The Hunts Post competition is looking to unearth the district’s cooking talent among 11 to 14-year-olds. The closing date for this year’s entries is Friday, September 5, 2008.

Finalists will then compete in a cook off on Saturday, September 27 at Saxongate, Huntingdon starting at 10am.

  • The Huntingdonshire 2008 Food & Drink Awards

Run by the Hunts Post in association with Huntingdonshire District Council to include Young Chef, Best Restaurant, Best Pub, Best B&B Breakfast, and best food retailer. The awards ceremony will be held at and sponsored by the Old Bridge at 6pm on Monday 29 September. The deadline for nominations is Friday 22 August.

  • Food Fest 2008 at Wood Green, Godmanchester

The main event, Food Fest 2008, at Wood Green Animal Shelters, Godmanchester on Sunday 28 September will showcase producers, suppliers and retailers.  This one day food extravaganza runs from 10am till 4pm and will have lots of exhibitors, offering food demonstrations, tasting, sales, ‘have a go’ sessions and much more.

Waitrose in St Ives will be supplying the food for Huntingdon Marriott chefs who will be performing ‘Get Set Go Cook’ gourmet cookery contests.  There will be a chance to make your own sausages, a wine tutorial, hog roasts and speciality meats to try as well as a number of real ales from local brewers and pubs. 

Visitors young or old can enjoy themselves at the education zone which includes the Feast of the Fens, the history of farming in the Fenland Area, find stacks of information on the work of Hunts 4 Good Food which includes local allotments, cooking clubs and community schemes, also on composting and food hygiene. An apple press where you can bring along your own apples and have them made into delicious apple juice, the council’s environment team with their pledge tree, interactive games and activities on local food production including a milking cow will be there too keep you busy. Or the more adventurous can have a go on a bicycle-powered smoothie maker or roll up their sleeves and try their hand at different cooking skills. It truly is a day for food lovers of all ages.  Shopmobility vehicles will be available for disabled visitors. The entrance fee is £3 for adults, children under 16 are free and concessions will be available.

  • Enhanced Farmers Markets

Huntingdon Farmers Market is taking place on Friday 26 September. Fresh, high quality, seasonal produce. Food from the local area, sold by the people who produce it.

St Neots Farmers Market is taking place on Saturday 27 September. Fresh local produce and specialities from local producers, with musci from Eel Pie. 9am - 1pm.

  • The Bridge Hotel, Huntingdon - Special celebration supper

Not a fancy dinner, just a relaxed evening with some good food, wine and a few words of introduction about the wines from owner John Hoskins, master of wine.  Arrive for an aperitif at 7.30pm; sit down in the dining room at 8pm prompt.

From Thursday 25 to Monday 29 September a set lunch menu (just £15.50 for 2 courses) is available and will also feature local ingredients, in support of the Festival.

  • St Neots museum

On Tuesday 23 - Saturday 28th April there will be a small display by and about local growers and food producers, available as part of the Museum's 'Summer on the Farm' exhibition. 

Sample local produce and find out what being a Market Town is all about. Museum Opens at 10.30am - 4.30pm.
Admission is free for local residents, visitors £2 adults and £1 concessions.

  • Sawtry Local Produce Market

Held on Thursday 2nd October 8am - 2pm at the Old School Hall, Green End Road, Sawtry.
