Facilities

The Nature Reserve is open to visitors at all times.  The Visitors’ Centre is open weekends from approximately 10am until 5pm, and most weekdays except Christmas Day.  There are toilets located at the Visitors’ Centre which are open every day.  In the Visitors’ Centre there are displays and leaflets about the reserve and the surrounding countryside and light refreshments are available when Voluntary Wardens are on site.  There is a list of latest wildlife sightings, but Rangers and volunteers will be more than happy to talk to you about what is around.
Some areas are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, some via Radar gates, but other sections have squeeze-gates, steps & stiles.  Please speak to a Ranger or volunteer for further advice about certain routes or weather conditions.

Disabled Access

There is disabled parking in the car-park next to the Visitors’ Centre and wheelchair access to the Centre and toilets.  There is also one disabled toilet.  Some of the reserve is suitable for wheelchairs via Radar gates, including the Hayden Hide, but other sections have squeeze-gates, steps and stiles.  Many of the paths, such as the Heron Trail, are accessible but can become muddy during wet weather.  Radar keys are sold in the Visitors’ Centre and can be purchased by those who are registered disabled.
There is an electrical wheelchair which can be borrowed from the Visitor’s Centre to go around the Nature Reserve.  Please ask the Rangers if you would like to use this.
