Friday 23rd May – Sambuca
Sambuca Concert 23rd May

This entertaining concert from Michael Copley and Peter Martin showcases an eclectic variety of music plundered from across the world – England, Denmark, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Venice, Bulgaria, Romania and Brazil!

Crossing the years and ranging from very early works through renaissance and baroque to some from the 20th century, the mix of music has an immediate appeal to all audiences (including children) – especially as the pieces are introduced with some style by the players.

The concert features guitar, baroque guitar, charango, lute, flutes (bass, alto and bamboo), panpipes, recorders (sopranino, treble, tenor and descant) and ocarina.

Composers include:  Isaac Albeniz, Antonio Vivaldi, William Byrd, Carl Nielsen, John Dowland, Diogenio Bigaglia, Santiago de Murcia, Michael Praetorius and Antonio (Tom) Carlos Jobim, as well as some traditional folk music from England, Romania and Argentina. The full programme is available from the link on the right.

Recent concerts from Sambuca have included the Wales Millennium Centre, university concerts in Cambridge, Huddersfield, Leicester, Reading, Sheffield and Southampton, Kloster Michaelstein in Germany, and Mulhouse Baroque Festival in France.  Their first CD has been heard on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction, and the duo themselves appeared live on Radio 3's In Tune.  You can see video footage of Sambuca live in concert, and hear their CD, on their MySpace site.

Hinchingbrooke Performing Arts Centre has comfortable tiered seating, plus seating on the flat if required, and is fully accessible to people with disabilities including a permanent induction loop.  There is plenty of free parking on site and a licensed bar is available for pre-concert and interval drinks and coffee.

Tickets £8.50 and £6.50 with discounted tickets for children under 18 at only £3.
