Sawtry and St. Ivo Leisure Centre are currently seeking Level 2 ASA Swim Teachers for lessons Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings.

These Variable Swim Teachers posts within Huntingdonshire District Council are exempt from the provision of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and applicants will be required to complete an enhanced Criminal Records check.

Salary Range: £13.43 - £16.71 per hour includes annual leave entitlement (dependent on qualifications)

Purpose of post

To assist the Centre Manager in providing, maintaining and developing the service according to the objectives of the service in a safe teaching environment.

Main Duties

  1. Undertake the instruction of classes.
  2. Ensure the highest standards of customer care are achieved.
  3. Maximise income potential through effective marketing.
  4. Ensure Health & Safety is maximised through the quality of induction, monitoring and review.
  5. Assist to maintain the facility and equipment to the highest standards.
  6. Ensure that all administration is completed fully and accurately.

Special Conditions

  • The post holder will be required to work to meet the needs of the programme.  The hours of work may include weekdays, weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays.  At the Centre Managers discretion these shifts may change to meet the changing demands of the service.
  • The post holder will be provided with suitable clothing to wear during employment and should be worn in accordance with Leisure Centres Uniform Dress Code.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • An understanding of what the customer expects from the service and what the Management expects from the employee.
  • Basic understanding of First Aid.

Desirable

  • Basic understanding of Health & Safety.

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Numeracy & Literacy.
  • The ability to be able to work to a high level of concentration, work unsupervised and use own initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the service including working with both adults and children to provide excellent customer care.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with an ability to get on with people.

Experience

Essential

  • Teaching experience.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a Leisure Centre environment / Customer service environment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant Governing Bodies Awards as specified for specific job role.
  • Completion of minimum CPD accreditation requirements.

Desirable

  • GCSE Maths & English Language or equivalent.

Other

Essential

  • Confident and assertive to deal with a wide range of situations.
  • Punctual, Reliable & Responsible.
  • Complete Enhanced Disclosure Criminal Record Bureau check.
