How We Built Our Website

This page is intended for organisations that are interested in how we built the Huntingdonshire District Council website.

Our website publishing system runs from Microsoft Content Management Server to which we have made a number of customisations. We were assisted through this process by Fujitsu Services ltd.

Authors in each department contribute content that is stored in accordance with the Cambridgeshire Category list which in turns forms the structure of the website. Work is then approved by department editors before appearing on the website. All content is created within a template which allows the web team to retain control over its presentation in order to comply with legislation on accessibility and usability.

We use an excellent link checking service from Siteimprove who monitor all the links on our website and alert us to any that are broken.

We also use Siteimprove's "SiteAlarm" product to monitor and report on our websites uptime/availability. Information on this can be found to the right.

Our forms, emails and FAQ's are managed using Xigla's products which have also proved to be very useful.

We have chosen to present the majority of our documents in pdf format as this is an open format with a freely available reader.

We use a software product called "Bobby" to check our site for accessibility issues. This is approved by the WAI.

Our search service is provided by Open Objects Verity search product.

We use Readspeaker to provide an audio version of all our web pages and documents.

More information about any of the products or services mentioned above can be found by following the links on the right of this page.
