Community Alarms

What happens when elderly or vulnerable people have an accident while they are at home alone?

How do they get help in an emergency?

The Community Alarm Scheme provides a way for such people to summon help in an emergency at home.

The scheme supplies you with two things:

  • A small pendant you carry with you has a red button, which, when you press it, sends a signal to the telephone.
  • A new telephone which replaces your old one. It can receive the signal you send with the pendant from any where in the house or garden.

When you press your pendant’s red button the telephone automatically calls the control centre where an operator is always waiting to alert the doctor and send for help as soon as your call comes in. The operator will see on his computer screen some brief medical notes, which you have supplied, and the names and addresses of three friends or relatives you have named. He will contact the nearest available one to come to your house with a key to deal with your problem and to let help in when it arrives.

The new telephone also includes a clever device to make conversation much clearer for people who wear a hearing aid and, if it rings, you can answer it by pressing your pendant button, there is no need to go to the phone.

You can rent or buy the equipment at the following rates.

Weekly Rent    £3.34 + VAT  £0.58  Total £3.92
                                  or
Buy Equipment £150.00 + VAT £26.25 Total £176.25

And you will pay another £2.05 per week for administration and Control Centre costs.

A GREAT OFFER!

Huntingdonshire District Council knows the value of the peace of mind that this scheme can give and has put some money aside so that those who need the service but can’t afford the full payment can enjoy the benefits at a reduced cost.  For new applicants who qualify, Huntingdonshire District Council will pay all the rental charges except the Administration and Control Centre costs.

Use the online form from the link on the right to apply for this offer.  Priority will be given to those over seventy five and to those who receive the benefits listed on the form but applications for the scheme are welcomed from anyone.
