Council Housing

The council does not own any council houses for rent but maintains a Housing Register of those households that wish to apply for social rented housing.  All the social rented housing in the district (including what were previously council houses) is owned by Housing Associations (often called Registered Social Landlords or RSLs ).

Anyone 16 years old or older can apply to the council’s Housing Register, although some restrictions may apply to 16 and 17 year olds.

The council assesses each application and awards a level of priority for housing based on each person’s individual circumstances.  Properties that become available for letting are then advertised through the Home-Link scheme and applicants have to bid for properties that they wish to be considered for.

If you would like to apply to the council's Housing Register you must now do this via the Home-Link scheme.  You can apply on line at www.Home-Link.org.uk (see the link under External Links on the right of this page and go to the Registration page).   Alternatively, you can refer to the applying for housing link on the right hand side of this page.
