Health Walks
Walkers in St Ives

As part of the national initiative and with funding from Huntingdonshire District Council and Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust, the Huntingdonshire Health Walks Scheme has now been established. The walks have been set up in St Ives, St Neots, Huntingdon and Ramsey. They provide people in the community with the opportunity to participate in organised health walks with trained leaders and volunteers. Walking is an easy and cheap way to get fit and stay healthy.

The “ Walking the Way to Health” Initiative is a national programme.
“Walking the way to Health” (WHI) aims to get more people walking in their own communities; especially those who take little exercise or live in areas of poor health. We want to benefit the lives of more than one million people by 2005. (WHI, 2003)

Aim of the scheme

  • To promote healthy walking
  • To enlighten and motivate people about opportunities to walk in their own neighbourhood, either on their own or with friends.
  •  To arrange a regular programme of short led walks.
  •  To promote places to walk that already exists.
  •  To identify new routes appropriate for healthy walks and accessible to all.
