Bin collections can take place any time between about 6.30am and 3.00pm. Many factors can affect the actual timing of your collection, from hold ups on the A14 to sickness and flat tyres.
Why hasn't my bin been collected?
There could be a number of reasons why your bin wasn't collected, including:
- Not being left out in time
- Not being left in the right place
- Containing the wrong materials
- Having side or excess waste
- We just haven't got to it yet
- We have actually missed your bin
Not out on time
Your bin must be left at the edge of your property by 6.00am on the morning of collection. The collection routes aren't always done in the same order, so even if your bin is normally collected at 8.30am, it may change from time to time
Not left in the right place
Your bin needs to be left at the edge of your premises. If you have an Assisted Collection, it cannot be left behind locked gates or where it is dangerous for a crew member to collect it.
Containing the wrong materials
We will not take a bin that has been 'contaminated' with the wrong kinds of materials. This could mean:
- Food items in your dry recycling
- Bagged garden waste in your green bin
- Dry recyclables in black sacks (we can't tell what is in the bags)
Side or Excess Waste
The Council does not collect waste that does not fit into your bin. This may mean that your bin has been emptied and any extra sacks have been put in the bin. We will also have sealed your bin with a large sticker telling you that we have not collected all your waste. For an average sized household, the grey wheeled bin should be adequate to collect all of your waste if you are recycling as many materials as possible. We haven't got there yet
Sometimes we are unavoidably delayed in collecting bins. On a normal day, we should have got round most of the collections by 3.00pm. If your bin still has not been emptied after this time, please call us.
We have actually missed your bin
Our collections service is of a very high standard, however, sometimes bins are missed. If we have missed your bin, we will arrange to come out and recollect it. We aim to be out within 24 hours to do this.
