Hazardous Waste


Hazardous Waste Regulations

The disposal of many different types of hazardous materials is governed by this complex piece of legislation. Under these regulations, all manner of household items are classed as hazardous waste. If you are concerned about disposing of Hazardous Waste, please contact us.

Asbestos

Donarbon Waste Management has two facilities where householders can dispose of asbestos safely, one is at Alconbury Hill and the other is at Waterbeach. They will only accept undamaged asbestos in whole sheets, and it must be properly bagged. Bags for disposing of asbestos are available free of charge from our Operations Division. This service is only available to domestic residents of Huntingdonshire. Please take proof of address when you collect your bags, e.g. Council tax bill, utility bill, etc.

Needles and Syringes

Collection Service - Telephone (01480) 434167 (24 HOURS)

If you find a needle or syringe in a public place:

  • Phone 01480 434167 (24 hours)
  • Provide clear details of the location of the discarded needle
  • Let us know if you have covered it up for protection
  • If possible leave your name and contact number and address so our officers can contact you If they have trouble locating the needle/syringe
  • If possible do not touch it
  • Do not hide it - but you can cover it so as to reduce possibility of injury to anyone else. Make sure  the cover is obvious to anyone else who may see the needle.
  • Do not separate the needle and the syringe
  • Do not put it in a litter bin, drain or flush it down the toilet

Priority Collection Service

If needles are found in an area that is deemed a serious risk e.g. Children's Playground, this will be given a priority response. By phoning the above number during a normal working day, a collection will normally be made within 2 hours.  If you find a needle in a non public area: refer to the Yellow Pages under waste disposal for private collections.
