Sustainability

Sustainable Development is a process of improving our quality of life by promoting local economic development in such a way that seeks to protect and enhance our environment, fosters our sense of community and promotes social progress.  The things that we do today can determine the future that we are going to leave for our children and children's children.  We want to leave them a world in which they can be proud and flourish.  This will only happen if the way we progress and develop now is in keeping with the capacity of the natural environment.

Huntingdonshire District Council is committed to embracing the principles of sustainable development.  This is why we have set ourselves some very challenging targets to bring what we do more in line with the government agenda of promoting the environmental, social and economic well-being of Huntingdonshire. For more information about national and international sustainable initiatives see the external links in the box on the right.

For local initiatives, follow the local sustainability link in the service directory on the left.
