Tree Maintenance
The district council has an 'in house' team for its tree work, and carries out routine tree maintenance throughout the district, as well as dealing with tree problems when they arise. We are lucky to live in an area with so many beautiful trees (and many of them very old), but this does bring a considerable amount of work to keep them in good condition.
The Council also has the power to place Tree Preservation Orders on certain trees, for more details, please see related links above.
Hedge Trimming
The trimming of hedges is controlled by legislation in order that habitats for birds and other hedgerow animals are not destroyed in breeding season, or when the animals have their young.
Reporting a Problem
The Council only deals with problems on its own land, but does have some powers to enforce legislation regarding trees on private land. If you do see a grounds maintenance problem, please contact us via the link on the right. We will need to know the location and the nature of the problem to help us make sure we have the appropriate tools to do the job. In some cases, we may have to 'make safe' a problem before a longer term fix can be put in place. This may include, for example, trimming some brambles from a larger hedge until we are able to trim the hedge back properly.
