Important:
The 1995 Huntingdonshire Local Plan was based on the framework of Planning Policy Guidance Notes published previously. As such, some aspects of the plan are now out of date and the Council is moving forward with the preparation of its Local Development Framework.

An example of where important information may have changed are the recent reviews and subsequent enlargement of the some of the Conservation Area boundaries. History of the Plan
The Huntingdonshire Local Plan was adopted by the District council in December 1995.  Some of the policies have been superseded by the Huntingdonshire Local Plan Alteration (See 'linked documents'; please refer to the introduction to the Alteration for a list of superseded policies). 
  
The Local Plan has been updated by the  Local Plan Alteration (Adopted 2002).  The Alteration contains some new policies, mostly concerned with the settlement strategy and housing. It was adopted by the Council in December 2002. 
  
Prior to its adoption the Alteration went through a public inquiry chaired by an independent inspector.  You can download a copy of the Inspector's Report and view the Councils' response to the recommendations (set out in the Schedule of Decisions and Reasons.) 
  
The District Council has also prepared a range of Supplementary and Interim Planning Guidance which builds upon the policies in the Local Plan.

Extension of "saved" policies from September 2007

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 provides for the saving of policies in adopted or approved local and structure plans for a period of 3 years from the commencement of the Act, which was 28 September 2004. In order to ensure continuity in the plan-led system and a stable local planning framework, the Secretary of State has issued a Direction (Schedule 1) listing all policies from the Huntingdonshire Local Plan 1995 and Local Plan Alteration 2002 which are to be saved beyond 28 September 2007, until they are replaced by policies in forthcoming Development Plan Documents.
