Core Strategy 2006

  • The Council consulted key stakeholders in January 2005 to invite views on emerging policy options
  • Public consultation on the Core Strategy: Preferred Options Report was carried out in June 2005
  • Further consultation was carried out in September and December 2005 on the Affordable Housing Targets and Thresholds Preferred Option
  • The Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State on 28 April 2006. There was a six week period of public consultation on the 'soundness' of the document
  • Following the publication of the Inspector's reports of the Examinations into the Lichfield and Stafford Core Strategy DPDs in summer 2006, the Government issued revised advice to all Local Planning Authorities regarding the required content of Core Strategies. Consequently, the Council had discussions with the Government Office for the East of England (Go-East) about the need for further work to supplement the spatial element of the Core Strategy
  • The Inspector appointed to carry out an independent examination into the soundness of the Core Strategy held a Pre-Examination meeting in Huntingdon on 20 September 2006, and duly postponed the planned date for the commencement of the Examination into the Core Strategy (which had been scheduled for January 2007)
  • Discussions took place during January/February 2007 between the Council, Go-East and the Planning Inspectorate about the extent of further work  required, and it has been agreed that the additional spatial guidance is too complex to be considered as a change to the submitted Core Strategy. As a result the Council has been advised that it should seek to have the Core Strategy withdrawn and to start afresh
  • The Secretary of State withdrew the Core Strategy on 20 April 2007
  • Full details on the timescale of the production of the revised Core Strategy can be found in the Local Development Scheme (click on the link in 'Related Information') and on the Core Strategy 2007 and Development Control Policies DPD page
