This Urban Design Framework presents an analysis of the land and buildings between Market Hill, Princes Street and Walden Road in Huntingdon and sets down a series of proposals for their re-development in the form of a Masterplan.
Earlier studies of the town centre and, more specifically, the area covered by this Urban Design Framework have identified the need for a comprehensive approach to re-development. The Masterplan proposals set out how the site can be developed in a manner consistent with the aims of Cambridgeshire County Council and Huntingdonshire District Council’s joint document ’A Vision for Redevelopment: Development Guidelines’ adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance in July 2002, whilst enhancing and re-vitalising the historic area in which the site is located. The Masterplan also seeks to ensure the continuing use and sensitive refurbishment and restoration of the listed buildings on the site.
It is important that a positive future is secured for the site and to this end all proposals should be realistic, positive and deliverable.
The Framework includes analysis material that alludes to the wider site context, particularly the bus station to the south. It is not however dependent on proposals affecting this area and can be implemented independently.
Following consultation, the Urban Design Framework and Masterplan are intended for adoption as Interim Planning Guidance by Huntingdonshire District Council.
