Pathfinder House Urban Design Framework

The Pathfinder House site is currently owned by Huntingdonshire District Council and is occupied as its office headquarters.

Accommodation is split between Castle Hill House (a Grade II* listed building) and Pathfinder House, a late 1970s speculative office block.

A recent survey of Pathfinder House has highlighted significant
structural defects. This document sets a framework for its possible removal and the potential redevelopment of the site as a whole, whether for replacement office accommodation or other alternative solutions.

This Planning and Urban Design Framework clarifies the policy and establishes clear principles relating to land use, site planning and building form that would apply to any redevelopment of this site. It promotes the demolition of Pathfinder House and a re-development of high urban design quality.

The framework is intended to stimulate development of a type and quality appropriate to its location within the heart of Huntingdon.

The area included within the framework includes land owned by the District Council, but it also refers to adjacent land that forms the site’s wider context. Proposals relating to land outside the Council’s ownership are indicative of potential future opportunities for improving the local environment.

This Planning & Urban Design Framework is adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance to the Huntingdonshire District Local Plan.
