Freedom Of Information

Huntingdonshire District Council holds a vast range of information regarding the Council and the services it provides.

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 is designed to promote greater openness and accountability by public authorities (i.e. Government, local authorities, schools, police, NHS etc.)  Individuals already have the right to access personal information about themselves under the Data Protection Act.  As far as public authorities are concerned, the Freedom of Information Act will extend this right to allow the public access to other types of information held by the authority.

The Act requires all public authorities to produce a ‘Publication Scheme’ which lists all information currently published, the format in which it is available and any applicable charges. The aim of the Publication Scheme is to make information easy to find and quickly accessible to the public.  The scheme has been available for public use since February 2003.  It is easy to use and is available either at the Council Offices or via this website. Please use the link on the right to access the Publication Scheme to find out how to view the information that is published by the Council.

From 1st January 2005 the Freedom of Information Act has allowed anyone to ask to see unpublished information held by Huntingdonshire District Council. All requests must be made in writing and must be responded to within 20 working days. The Council must consider Public Interest and whether any of the requested information is exempt from disclosure. There may be fees applicable in which case the information will not be released until the payment is received. Please contact the District Council by e-mailing the Freedom of Information Officer using the link on the right hand side of this page.
