Waresley

Waresley, a small 'Estate' village set in pleasant undulating countryside near the District's southern boundary, is situated on the Potton Road beside the wooded grounds of Waresley Park a large house built as recently as 1934.  The church, too, is surprisingly recent for it was built in 1857 to the design of the celebrated Butterfield and the chancel is a good example of his work.  The church is connected by a well to the adjacent Duncombe Mausoleum.  Waresley retains some charming old thatched cottages and the popular Duncombe Arms, set in the middle of the village, provides good fare.  The strong community spirit in Waresley has been reflected in recent years by village fund-raising activities which have led to the building of a modern Cricket Club and Pavilion and the replacement of the church spire which was destroyed by gales in 1987.

In addition there is a Garden Centre and at Waresley Park Stud, three day event horses are trained to Olympic standard.
