Upwood And The Raveleys

Immediately south-west of Ramsey, this parish includes the village of Upwood and the way-side communities of Great and Little Raveley, small groups of cottages with, at Little Raveley, an appropriately small church of the Perpendicular period, now a private residence.  Picturesque Upwood has grown residentially with Air Force accommodation which has now been made available for civilian occupation at Farm Close and Fairmead.  The school makes a contribution to the village scene with metallic sculptures in its grounds.  The church dates back to Norman times and features a Jacobean font cover and glorious Glasby mosaic First World War frieze in the Lady Chapel.  Opposite is Upwood House, built around 992 and was given to Aylwin by Edgar, including the fisheries and eeleries thereof.
