Alwalton

Alwalton, one of many lovely villages in Huntingdonshire, lies five miles to the west of Peterborough, overlooking the southern bank of the River Nene and flanking the line of Ermine Street, a major road in Roman times.  Alwalton is a conservation area with a number of listed buildings, the most important of which being the Norman Church of St. Andrew's and the Elizabethan Manor House.

The village lies along the route of the Nene pathway and the Cuckoo provides for a pleasant refreshment stop.  Henry Royce co-founder of the Rolls-Royce Motor car, was born here and is buried in the Church. In September 1998 a new Village Hall was officially opened which is the focus of many village activities.

The East of England Regional Showground lies to the south of the village.  The 240 acre site is used each June for the Summer Show and at other times for horse and pony shows, commercial and agricultural exhibitions and for grass track and speedway racing.
