The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) brought in measures to prevent discrimination against disabled people; this legislation applies to all public organisations, including local government. From December 2006 ,the DDA places a duty on the Council to promote disability equality; namely to eliminate discrimination and promote equality of opportunity.
The Council has produced a Disability Equality Scheme which sets out our commitment to disability equality and an Action Plan that sets out how we are going to achieve it.
