Mobile CCTV Vehicle
HDC's Mobile CCTV Vehicle

In 2004 the District Council took delivery of a specially adapted Mercedes Sprinter van fully fitted with CCTV cameras.  Purchased by the District Council it is operated in partnership with Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

The vehicle is designed to give the Council the ability to provide a CCTV service to areas in the District which are not covered by their fixed camera system in the town centres.

The vehicle is equipped with 3 operational cameras plus a further 3 cameras to offer protection to its staff.

The 3 operational cameras are:

1 hydraulic mounted ptz camera for generic use;

1 hydraulic mounted ptz camera equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

1 'Metal Mickey' ptz dome camera mounted at the front of the vehicle which can be used by the operator whilst the vehicle is in motion.

The images from the cameras are monitored in the rear of the vehicle and can be recorded digitally and used as evidence in court if required.

Whilst the vehicle is mainly used on special patrols and operations to combat anti-social behaviour, it can also be used on other types of operations especially where crowd control may be an issue.  The vehicle is also a popular attraction at village fetes and festivals.
