The Huntingdonshire Community Safety Partnership has been in place since 1998 and is nearing the end of their third three year Community Safety Strategy. Throughout this period, the Partnership and associated action groups have been focused on addressing the crime and disorder priorities as identified within the Strategy and demonstrating that Huntingdonshire is a safe place to live, work and visit.
The Partnership has continued to achieve against its targets throughout the 2005 – 08 Strategy period and considerable decreases in theft of vehicles, dwelling burglaries and theft from shops in the Town Centres has been seen. But the Partnership has also recognised where they are not on track to meet their targets and has responded by establishing time limited action groups to address these priorities.
The Partnership has recently carried out its first Strategic Assessment as a requirement under the Review of the Crime and Disorder Act that took place towards the end of 2004. Strategic Assessments will be carried out annually and this will ensure that the Partnership is aware of and focusing on the areas of crime that are of most concern. Once the priorities have been identified, the Partnership will consult with members of the community to ensure they reflect what community members feel are important. All of this information along with the agreed priorities will then be developed in to a three year, annually refreshed, Community Safety Plan. Action plans will sit alongside the plan and indicate what actions are to be taken to address the agreed priorities and who the lead agency/organisation for each plan will be.
The many success’s that have been achieved by the Partnership over the last three years is due to the effective partnership working and information sharing between relevant agencies and organisations. The aim is that this excellent example of partnership working will continue and the Huntingdonshire Community Safety Partnership will focus on issues and priorities that are important to the many communities within the area. The Partnership will continue to work with community groups to build even better, stronger and effective partnerships to deliver safety throughout Huntingdonshire.
If you feel that your group would like to contribute towards the work of the Partnership to address crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour throughout Huntingdonshire or at a more local level then we would be happy to hear from you.
