Have you been subjected to a discriminatory incident, because of race, colour, faith, sexuality or disability?
This is classed as Hate Crime and it is unacceptable and should be reported.
Open Out
'Open Out' is a group of statutory and voluntary agencies working with the local community to combat discrimination and hate crime. Huntingdonshire District Council supports 'Open Out' and the Community Safety team part of the scheme.
When this type of crime happens, usually you would go to the Police. This route is still encouraged, but 'Open Out' recognises that victims some-times need other choices.
The 'Open Out' scheme operates throughout Huntingdonshire and you can visit one of the 'Open Out Reporting Centres' or 'Information Points' in the area where a report form will be available for you to complete.
The 'Open Out' group assesses incidents that are reported to them and investigates each incident in accordance with the wishes of the victim. This means that if you only want to report it and have nothing else done, your decision will be respected and the incident will only be recorded for statistical purposes. 'Open Out' will ensure that you are kept updated throughout the progress of the investigation.
'Open Out' works with a number of different agencies, such as Victim Support to help you from the time you report the incident until the investigation is concluded.
You can be totally sure of confidentiality. All 'Open Out 'members have signed up to a confidentiality clause, and an information protocol that are covered by Data Protection legislation. Your personal information will be kept within the confines of the 'Open Out' group.
The Community Safety Team at Huntingdonshire District Council are an 'Open Out Reporting Centre'. You can call us on 01480 388388.
In an EMERGENCY you should call the police on 999.
