Although Huntingdonshire is regarded as a safe place to live and work, residents concerns about anti-social behaviour have risen in recent years and people are more aware of being able to do some-thing about it. The Community Safety Team is working with local people, communities, and various organisations to address the issues.
Anti-social Behaviour is defined in the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 as acting "in a manner that caused or was likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons not of the same household as himself and which is not reasonable in all circumstances".
Anti-social behaviour does not have to be a criminal act. Behaviour such as litter or loud noise that puts people in fear of crime can amount to anti-social behaviour. Other types of problems experienced can include: abandoned vehicles, dog fouling, foul language and 'yobbish' behaviour. Often, taken in isolation, individual issues might not appear severe, but the impact on people's quality of life can be very upsetting for those experiencing the problems.
The Community Safety Team, employs two Anti-social Behaviour Caseworkers, Barbara Gowling and Tracey Guinea who work with a variety of organisations as well as the community to address problems. Their roles involve receiving and monitoring complaints and working in Partnership with other agencies and organisations to ensure that the most appropriate and effective solutions are in place.
Barbara Gowling and Tracey Guinea can be contacted on 01480 388388.
