Workplace Regulations


Workplace under HDC

Huntingdonshire District Council is the responsible authority at all workplaces where the following are the workplaces main activity:-

  • Sale or storage of goods for wholesale or retail distribution including exhibitions
  • Offices
  • Catering Services
  • Provision of residential accommodation
  • Consumer Services
  • Cleaning in coin operated launderettes
  • Baths, beauty treatments, massage parlours etc
  • Arts, sports, games, entertainment and leisure
  • Hire of boats
  • Care, treatment and accommodation of animals or birds
  • Funeral Undertakers
  • Churches and places of worship
  • Children, nurseries and play groups

The Health & Safety Executive

Employers, Self employed & Employee Responsibilities

Responsibilities:-

The law requires every person involved in work to care for the health and safety of himself and others.  Employers must protect their employees, self-employed and employees must protect themselves and everyone must co-operate in protecting safety and health at work.
 
Any business involved in office or shop work that employs staff, is required by Section 49 of the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963 and the Notification of Employment of Persons Order 1964, to complete the OSR Form in order to notify the Local Authority
 
A similar requirement exists for notification to HSE of employment in factories etc.

What happens if someone has an accident?

Accident/Incident  Reporting


New arrangements for the reporting of accident/incidents came into effect on the 1 April 2001.  There is now one centre to which all reportable accidents should be reported to.

You must report all of the following:

  -  a death or major injury;

  -  an over-three-day injury (that is when and employee or self-employed person has an accident at work and is unable to work for over three days, but does not have a major injury);

  -  a work-related disease; and

  -  a dangerous occurrence (this is when something happens that does not result in a reportable injury, but which clearly could have done).
 
 
Any death at a workplace as the result of an accident must be reported by telephone on 0845 3009923 (Monday - Friday between 8.30am and 5.00pm) outside of these hours you should telephone (01480) 434167.
