Employing People

The number of employed people living in Huntingdonshire is the second highest of all local authorities in the East of England.  While this shows the district is an attractive place to live and work in, there is also a high level of out-commuting.

The district council aims to reduce the level of out-commuting by attracting new business enterprise and encouraging employers to provide local jobs for local people.  Despite the low level of unemployment locally, we also aim to encourage firms to employ and train school leavers and residents looking for jobs.

The council has created a film to highlight the benefits of Huntingdonshire to encourage inward investment and attract people to the area.  There is a link to the film, 'Huntingdonshire in Perspective', on the right.

Ramsey Learning Community

The Huntingdonshire Learning Partnership together with the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Learning Trust has secured funding for Ramsey to establish itself as a ‘Learning Community’. This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to try different learning activities.  The project has been named ‘Something for you’ and its’ activities will support that message.

Cultivating a learning community is about generating a ‘can do attitude’, raising aspirations through joined up working, whilst building in sustainability. To ensure success the project will use a multi-agency approach, encouraging all service providers to work together in order to raise the learning, skill levels and aspirations of the community.

One of the first tasks has been to identify what community organisations and groups are in existence.  This is now complete and their good work has been promoted through a booklet aptly named ‘Something for you’.  The booklet lists community groups and the activities / services they provide within Ramsey and its surrounding area. It also details further scheduled activities and competitions.  From 1st November the booklet is available from the Ramsey Community Information Centre located at 39, Great Whyte, Ramsey.
